Dysport and Restylane in the OR

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

FYI…If you are planning a Louisville cosmetic surgery in the future don’t forget that we can add in a Louisville Dysport or a Louisville Restylane treatment. And, the best part is you will already be asleep so you won’t feel a thing! It only takes a minute and the facilities do not charge you to have this done if you are in the operating room already.

Dysport Challenge Extended

Tuesday, June 8th, 2010

Louisville, KY. Dysport is another form of botulinum toxin used to smooth wrinkles. It is the main rival to Botox in the U.S.

Dysport and Botox work by chemically creating a disconnect between a nerve and a muscle. The analogy I frequently use is that both are much like a child safety cap one would put on a plug.

In an effort to gain more market share Dysport has offered a Love it or Leave it challenge. The offer has now been extended through September. This is a great offer for the patients enabling you to save $150 on your next Louisville Dysport or Louisville Botox treatment.

A better Restylane??

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

It’s been around for a little while, but today in my Louisville, KY plastic surgery office I used Louisville Restylane with Lidocaine for the first time.

Lidocaine is a common injectible anesthetic that is widely used in surgery. It’s just like what your dentist uses.

Well, one of the knocks on any filler is that there is a little discomfort associated. When I used the Restylane with Lidocaine today my patient’s reaction was very positive. After the initial stick, she didn’t feel anything!! ( I treated her Naso-Labial folds)

For the Naso Labial folds I’m a believer! I will have to use it on the lips, which typically require a dental block, to see how good it really is though!

I’ll keep you posted.

Complications and Fillers

Tuesday, April 27th, 2010

Injectible fillers in Louisville, such as Louisville Juvederm and Louisville Restylane, are some of the most commonly requested services requested in my Louisville Cosmetic Surgery practice. In the vast majority of cases, the injections are well tolerated with good results and happy patients.

Fillers have been extensively tested and are very, very safe. Most problems are actually not a result of the filler itself, rather a problem with injection technique.

Early problems are the most common ones we encounter and include redness and swelling. Bruising can occur if a small blood vessel is injured by the injection. With the exception of fat injections, an allergic reaction can occur with any filler but this is extremely rare with todays fillers.

Late problems are primarily related to granuloma formation. A granuloma is basically a scar reaction to the injected material. If this occurs it is typically 6 to 24 months after injection.

Laser Tattoo Removal…are you a candidate?

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Louisville, KY Laser Tattoo Removal.

Not all skin types are candidates for laser tattoo removal. Darker complected patients may not be good candidates because the laser can bleach the skin. If you are considering laser tattoo removal please click this link and complete the Fitzpatrick Scale evaluation.

If you are skin type I-IV you are likely to be a good candidate for Louisville Tattoo Laser treatments.

Lip Lines

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Lip lines are a common complaint in my Louisville Plastic Surgery office.

Treatment options for lip lines include Louisville Botox, Louisville Dysport, fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm, and lasers.

Botox, Dysport and fillers are office procedures that only take a few minutes to have done. Lasers, depending on their power levels, can be done in the office or sometimes in the operating room.

Tear trough correction

Monday, January 18th, 2010

If you have that tear trough that runs from the middle of your eye down onto the cheek, it can be corrected using Louisville Restylane.

Restylane is injected into the tear trough to fill it back in thus blending the lower lid and cheek.

This is done as an office procedure and takes only a few minutes.

Laser Tattoo removal on the increase

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Requests for Louisville Laser Tattoo Removal are on the rise.

Most commonly we are seeing young (25-35 yr. old) professional women who as they enter their careers feel they need to do away with a particular tattoo.

The tattoos come in all shapes and sizes and are everywhere. We see them on the shoulder, lower back, arms, fingers, breasts, tummy, buttocks, and ankles most commonly.

The colors also vary widely, but most commonly we see reds, blues and blacks as the dominant colors.

The laser we use is called a VersaPulse. It is really several lasers in one and is capable of treating any color tattoo. If you are interested in learning more, contact our

office at 502.721.0330.

Dysport and Botox…the units are different.

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

As Dysport hits the market, I have come to realize that the patients don’t understand the dosing differences between this and Botox.

Dysport is dosed 2.5 times as much as botox. In other words, the typical dose of Botox to treat the glabella is 20 units. With Dysport we use 50 units.

Because of this difference, a unit of Dysport is less expensive than a unit of Botox, usually about 40% of the cost when compared unit for unit.

If you are considering Dysport please clarify this point with your injector before a treatment to avoid an unpleasant cost surprise at the check out counter.

Botox and Bruising

Tuesday, September 1st, 2009

Bruising after a Louisville Botox or Louisville Dysport injection is definitely a possility. Now it’s not all that common but it can and does happen.

This is especially when we treat the crow’s feet area. There are always small veins that live at the side of the eye that are right in the way of where we inject. In fact, the face if full of small blood vessels around the eyes and on our foreheads. So, whenever we put the needle in to inject the toxin, it’s possilbe that we hit a blood vessel. The result…a possible bruise.

You can minimize the risk of a bruise by avoiding aspirin or advil type products and with the application of ice packs to the area immediately before and after.

In the end though, if you get a bruise camouflage with make-up and be assured that it will go away.
